Pierce & Seal – How To Use

The BPMI Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool is fantastic for anyone who uses caulking. If you were to look around in garages, contractor truck beds and job site tools boxes, you would easily find tubes of unused caulking in various brands and colors.

You might see tubes of unused caulking with nails or screws in the nozzle. This has long been a method contractors have been using to try in vain of saving the unused caulk. As any one who has done this will tell, “It doesn’t work!”

For anyone who uses any amount of caulk, the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool will help you get the most value out of that expensive tube of silicone gooiness. By extending the life of the caulk for as long as six months (when properly used and stored) and in some cases . . . longer, the Pierce & Seal is well worth five times its weight in gold!

The term “caulk saver” doesn’t begin to explain the usefulness of the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool. Yes, its main purpose is to extend the life of caulking products, but it is also designed for when you first cut open a new tube of caulking, to be used in piercing the factory seal. Similar “caulk saver” products only attempt to save the “save caulk”. But they aren’t made to pierce the factory seal and can hardly be used as many multiple times as the Pierce & Seal can, when properly taken care of.

The BPMI Pierce & Seal gives you more “caulk saver tool” for your hard earned money, to help save more of that hard earned money by extending the life of expensive caulking products. The Pierce & Seal is easy to clean and maintain, so it can be used over and over and over, again and again!

To use: simply slide the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool into the nozzle of the caulking and puncture the factory a few times, then start using the caulk as needed. When you have finished caulking your work area, remove the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool from the Pierce & Seal clip and slide it back into the nozzle, cutting off all air flow to the tip. The triple seal Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool has two rubber gaskets that keep the air from flowing into the caulk nozzle and the cap acts as the third seal. On some tubes of caulk, the cap will snap onto the nozzle, holding it firmly in place. After you seal the caulk with the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool, store as directed in a cool dry place and expect to use it again within a six month period.

Pierce & Seal – Adhesive Clips

The BPMI Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool also comes with its own Pierce & Seal clip for keeping track of the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool when not in use. The Pierce & Seal clip has an adhesive backing to it that allows you to adhere the clip to the gun, so it can hold your Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool until you are ready to use it.

Because caulking guns sometimes have “non-stick” coatings painted on them, an area on the gun needs to be slightly scuffed, so the adhesive part of the clip can hold firmly to the caulk gun. Having the Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool close by when you need it saves time from looking for the caulk saver tool later.

Pierce & Seal – Recycled Product?

The BPMI Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool is quickly growing in percentages of caulk saver tools being made of recycled products.

We were surprised to learn how many wire coat hangers are disposed of on a weekly basis by cleaners just in our local area. BPMI has started a “Pierce & Seal Recycle Partnership” with local cleaners to recover their unwanted wire coat hangers, at no charge to them. We schedule a pick up to stop by each participating cleaner location to rescue the tens of thousands of wire hangers from ending up in landfills.

Keep in mind that not every hanger is converted into a BPMI Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool. Only those that meet to grade get a chance at serving another purpose before (hopefully) being recycled again. For the unfortunate hangers that don’t meet the grade, we recycle them at the local scrap yard to still defer them from the landfill.

Pierce & Seal – Why Colored Caps?

The BPMI Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool comes in colored caps for those contractors who use multiple types and colors of caulk. The colored caps also help those few contractors who want to be somewhat organized without spending a great deal of time doing so. Coordinating the caps with the color of the caulking inside the tube, can save a lot of time, when time is short on a job that needs to be done.

The convenient Pierce & Seal 2-pack comes in colored pairs of up to six different colored caps. So if a person uses certain colors of caulk more than others, they can specifically grab the color that best fits their daily use.

The extra value Pierce & Seal 6-Pack come with one of each color in a single pack and sells at a considerable discount per Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool than the 2-pack Pierce & Seal caulk saver tool price.

We have coordinated the most popular colors of caulking with the Pierce & Seal caulk saving caps for you to choose from: Black caulk / Black cap * Grey caulk / Grey cap * White caulk / White cap * Clear Caulk / Clear cap * Almond/Tan/Beige Caulk / Tan cap and for those who use Polyurethane caulk / Yellow cap. For a limited time, we will also be packaging the original red cap in the 2-pack assorted cases for those who just like red.

Pierce & Seal – FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

WHY ARE THE CAPS COLORED?
The colors chosen for the caps represent the six most common colors of caulking. It was intended for the user to match the corresponding colored cap with the color of the caulking in the tube they planned to use the Pierce & Seal tool for. This would allow multiple tubes of various colors to be stored in the same box, allowing a quick glance to determine the color of each tube when returning to reuse the caulking once again.

THE CLIP WON’T STICK TO MY GUN, WHY?
It is highly recommended that the surface area of the gun where you desire to place the clip, is lightly sanded and wiped clean. Because some caulking gun manufacturers coat their products with a “non-stick” coating, the clip sometimes will not stick. By sanding away the coating where the clip is going to be, the adhesion is allowed to stick to the bare metal.

WHY ARE SOME PIERCE & SEALS GREENISH AND OTHERS ARE NOT?
A growing percentage of Pierce & Seals are made from recycled coat hangers. Local cleaners near the factory offer their unusable metal hangers for recycling into Pierce & Seals. What used to go into the landfill, now gets another chance of usefulness.

ARE THE RUBBER RINGS IMPORTANT?
Yes the rubber O-rings are very important. The “triple seal” comprises of an O-ring, the cap and another O-ring. The two O-rings sandwich the cap creating an air tight seal over the opening of the caulking tube’s nozzle. Since air is what caulking needs to help it cure and set, the O-rings reduce the air flow and allow the unused caulk to store for 6 months or more.

OTHER THAN CAULKING, WHAT ELSE CAN I USE THE PIERCE & SEAL FOR?
The Pierce & Seal works good with adhesives in “toothpaste” style tubes, glue bottles and most products containing a nozzle.

HOW MANY TIMES CAN I REUSE THE PIERCE & SEAL?
If the Pierce & Seal is wiped clean after it is taken out of the tube, it can be used over and over and over, until the rubber seals rot away.

AN I RECYCLE THE TOOL WHEN I AM DONE WITH IT?
Since this is already a recycled product, once the Pierce & Seal can no longer serve the purpose it was designed for, remove the cap and O-rings and recycle the metal stem.

WHAT TEMPERATURES SHOULD I STORE THE CAULKING WHEN NOT IN USE?
The unused caulking should be stored at manufacturers recommended temperatures.
